Our heart is a wondrous strong muscular pump which continuously pumps blood in the circulatory system. Each day, our heart, which is a little fist sized structure, beats at a rate of 72 beats per minute and pumps around 3000 gallons of blood.
The cardiovascular system is made up of the heart and the blood vessels, namely arteries, and veins. The arteries carry oxygen rich blood from the heart to various parts of the body and the veins carry oxygen deprived blood from the various body systems, back to the heart. This system is responsible for continuous circulation blood throughout the body. This continuous flow of blood ensures that all our body systems are provided with sufficient nutrients and oxygen and there is timely removal of waste material from these systems.
